We can all get sucked into lack-based thinking especially in today’s times where there’s so much of it being reported in the media with sequesters, government shut downs and threats of reneging on repaying our federal debts (just to mention a few of the most recent ‘horror stories’).
I have found two powerful ways to counterbalance such off purpose patterns of thought (which is further fueled by the powerful Inherited Purpose emotion of fear.) They are:
- Gratitude, and
- Generosity
Replacing the Off Purpose Pattern
Whenever I find myself practicing the off purpose pattern of lack-based thinking which often manifests as worrying about money (ie, worries about paying the bills, etc.) I have created a simple and effective counterbalancing on purpose pattern of gratitude. By combining the experience of gratitude (being grateful) with the action of counting my blessings (doing), the result (having) is a life that I’m very grateful to live.
Then, couple that with being generous, practicing acts of generosity also result in a grateful, generous life. One way to become clear about what acts of generosity to preform is to ask yourself the question:
How can I share myself (my resources, talents, expertise and energy) with others in a way that serves and makes a difference?
Applying this at Life On Purpose Institute
This past weekend I decided to apply this to one of my Purpose Projects — the upcoming Life On Purpose Mentoring Program.
I am so grateful to have the opportunity to assist people in clarifying their life purpose and to further assist them in designing their life on purpose. I also know that such a transformation takes real commitment and time. While it’s not a quick fix, it is a lasting, life enhancing transformation. Over the past 17+ years I’ve found one of the most powerful and effective ways to do this is through a combination of:
- Individual coaching
- Group interaction
- Supplemented with online tutorials & an online community for participants.
Thus the reason the Life On Purpose Mentoring Program is designed with all three in place.
A Recent Teachable Moment
I’ve been very active lately playing senior league softball two to four times per week and it’s taken a toll on my 64+ year old body. In a recent conversation about possible care that might help me in the healing process Ann mentioned a local acupuncture place that offered their services on a sliding scale payment. It reminded me that I’d used such a payment method earlier in my coaching career & how well it worked for my clients and me.
So, I’ve decided to implement the following sliding scale tuition plan for the upcoming Life On Purpose Mentoring Program:
- Monthly payment plan: Set your own monthly payment that will work for you and your family between $125 to $250. Remember that the program is 12 months long so plan to make the same payment for each of those 12 months, or
- If you prefer, make a one time investment between $1500 and $3,000.
And since this is a bit of a late change, I’m going to delay the start of the program. The new target date is October 31st or when we have 6 or more people registered for the program.
You can see all the details here.
For me, this is one more action I can take to share my resources and energy, and it feels good to do it. I realize this is a challenging time for many people. I also know with all my heart the difference that knowing your true purpose can make especially during challenging times.
