Since 1996 when Ann and I co-founded Life On Purpose Institute, our vision has been:
Creating a World On Purpose
A few years ago we adjusted this vision just a bit to “Being a catalyst for Creating a World On Purpose.” It felt right since a catalyst is a relatively small ingredient that can make a tremendous difference in a chemical reaction, and given that we’re a relatively small organization operating from the mountains of North Carolina, this addition feels right. So, let me answer a few common questions people have asked through the years about our vision:
Why this Vision?
Because I’ve experienced both ends of the spectrum — living a life where I lost that sense of purpose which came from misidentifying my purpose in the first place, and then later getting back on track with a clarity of purpose that I’ve enjoyed for almost two decades now. Knowing the pain of a ‘purposeless’ life and the joy of a life filled with purpose, I want to share this possibility with others. (You can hear more of my story on our newly designed home page.
What Does it Mean to Create a World On Purpose?
It means we’re out to help as many people as possible bring that same level of clarity of purpose to their own life. Each time this happens we’re just a little closer to living in a world on purpose. And each person who knows their life purpose can create a world on purpose around them even as much of the rest of the world continues ‘off purpose.’ Over time these little “bubbles of purpose” begin to coalesce, eventually leading to a world on purpose.
Who is Included in this Vision?
Well, in one sense everyone…at least everyone who’s open to the possibility. In a more practical sense, everyone who realizes that they’ve been unclear about their true purpose for being alive and are ready to do the inner work to become clear about their life purpose. I truly believe more and more people are awakening to the importance of living a purposeful life. That awareness is the first key step to a life on purpose.
How Are We Doing It?
Over the years, we’ve endeavored to help people clarify their life purpose in a number of ways – retreats, online teleclasses, speaking engagements, books, individual coaching, training additional coaches, etc. The one thing that has remained constant during these years has been foundation of all these different ways — the 6 Passages that make up the Life On Purpose Process. When will it be Done?
Good question. Truthfully, probably not in my life time, and that’s okay. I admit that recently realizing this truth I’ve begun to create a Life On Purpose in Perpetuity Project so the work and vision can continue after Ann and I are ready to step down (and eventually step on to whatever is next after this life.) I have found there’s something particularly powerful in taking on a vision that will likely not be finished in my life time. Sure has kept me inspired these past 17 years.
How Can Others be Involved?
Well, in one sense, if you’re reading these words, you already are involved because we’re connected through this ezine that for most of those 17 years I’ve enjoyed writing and publishing. I truly value my readership, especially when I hear kind words of the difference one of my articles has made (so keep those cards and letters coming. <G>)
Another key way people have become involved through the year has been to be trained as a Life On Purpose Coach, In fact, this has become an integral part of our vision and the Life On Purpose in Perpetuity Project.
