I work with mid- to late-career men and women who feel stuck. They are deemed “successful” by those around them but lack a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment. They go to work feeling that there has to be more to life than this. I help them distinguish between living the life they are meant to live and living a life that others expect them to live. My goal is to lead them through a process that allows them to live on purpose, to be liberated and empowered, and to flourish as they express their true life purpose in the world they live in. To flourish is something we should all aspire to for it means to thrive and prosper. How about you?

By the time we get to our mid- to late-career years, we typically find ourselves in one of two situations. The first is a life filled with complexity, uncertainty and turbulence. We are trying to meet the demands of work, family, spouses, volunteer organizations, churches…and on and on. We are so busy doing for others that we have no time for ourselves. We’re so wrapped up in all this activity surrounding the doing that we’ve lost touch with who we really are when we’re not fulfilling these roles. We find ourselves asking, “Who am I? Where am I going?”

The second common situation is where we find ourselves asking, “What’s next?” We’re approaching the end of our vocational careers and see a big empty void staring us in the face. Additional time for rest and recreation is a welcome thought as we approach retirement, but we also want to continue to contribute in some meaningful way. We don’t want to just fade away into the sunset. We want to leave a legacy.

In either case, we are left with two significant questions that must be answered if we are to flourish…to thrive and prosper. See if you can answer them.

1.     Who is (insert your name here)? __________________________________________

2.     What is your life purpose statement? My life purpose is __________________________

If You’re Stumped, I Can Help

Some of us are vaguely aware that these questions are floating around in the back of our minds. Others are blissfully, or not-so-blissfully, unaware and are stuck on the treadmill of daily life.

Once we become aware of the problem, we may try one or more of the following “solutions.”

  • We think the problem is caused by something external to us so we switch jobs, spouses, geographic locations, hobbies, etc.
  • We tell ourselves that if we just buckle down and work harder we will have more time and resources and then we will be happy.
  • We believe that if we can accumulate more money things will fall into place and we’ll be happy.
  • We assume that if we keep doing our best to please others success will surely follow.
  • We read all kinds of self-help books and literature seeking the answer to our lack of fulfillment.
  • We decide that a new car, a boat, new furniture, a new wardrobe, a new house or a second home is what we need to be happy.
  • We compare ourselves to others and decide that life is just not fair and we’re destined to a life of lack and struggle.
  • We believe that more time with friends and more social interaction will fill the void within us.
  • We feel like we just need to do more in order to achieve that elusive state of happiness.

Any of these “solutions” strike a chord?

But guess what…none of these “solutions” will work. Zero, zilch, nada. Why? Because they are focused on living a life that is dictated to you by the beliefs, attitudes, and expectations of others. These solutions are not expressions of who you truly are; they do not emanate from your deepest hopes and dreams. You are attempting to live someone else’s life…and you are likely not even aware that you are doing so.

This quote from Paulo Coelho’s book, The Zahir, says it well.

“Ester asked why people are sad.
“That’s simple,” says the old man. “They are the prisoners of their personal history. Everyone believes that the main aim in life is to follow a plan. They never ask if that plan is theirs or if it was created by another person. They accumulate experiences, memories, things, other people’s ideas, and it is more than they can possibly cope with. And that is why they forget their dreams.”

If these solutions are ineffective, what is it that you really need to do? Simply stated, you need to sift through your accumulated experiences, beliefs, memories and learnings and determine which of them represent the real you, not the carefully constructed you that you present to those around you. You need to finally, once and for all, answer the question, “Who is (insert your name here)? Only then will you be able to answer the second question, “Where do I want to go with my life?”

How I Can Help

So, why should you consider hiring me to help guide you through the Life on Purpose process? First, I’m old! And with age comes experience. I’ve tried nearly all of the wrong “solutions” and finally, after years of searching, discovered my own Divinely Inspired Life Purpose through the Life on Purpose coaching process. I’ve come to the realization that I am a “researcher/teacher” and my purpose is to help others take responsibility for their lives and to guide them toward achieving their full potential. I do this by leading men and women like you through the Life on Purpose process.

For more than forty years I have served in employee, consultant and senior officer roles primarily with financial services companies across the U.S. and in Australia. Was I successful? Well, success is generally defined in our culture as acquiring power and money so, yes, in that sense I have been successful. But it wasn’t until I discovered Life on Purpose that I was able to define success in my own terms and create a life that allows me to flourish, to be the real Ron Butterfield. That is real success!

I’ve immersed myself in the Life on Purpose process and practice it every day. I currently take employees at all levels in the company I work for through the Life on Purpose process. The results have been nothing short of amazing! Their lives have changed in dramatic ways both at home and on the job. They have become authentic human beings as they have learned to live life as an expression of who they truly are. I’d like to do the same for you.

Interested? Contact me now to set up a time to visit…no cost or obligation. We can then determine whether or not the Life on Purpose process is a fit for you and make sure there is a good match between us. A good fit and a good match ensure success. Without them there is no reason to proceed.
