So, remember, my favorite question to pose to readers is: “If you could go on a mission with the Eco-team of Ra-Kit the magic cat, Sampson, the flying dog, and young Zak, what mission to help the animals of Earth would you choose?”

As I mentioned in the last posting, this question has also spawned some interesting results already. One young girl who participated in one of the first Readup said she’d want to go on a mission where the Eco-team would help abused and mistreated dogs and cats, and where one of the abusers would learn his or her lesson and correct their bad behavior.

A few days after hearing this I remembered an interview I had conducted back during my freelance days writing purposeful profiles about people making a difference in the world. One of those purposeful people was Chitra Besbroda, a woman from Sri Lanka who’d moved to Harlem where she discovered many dogs who were being used as ‘living burglar alarms.’ Her first meeting with one of these ‘junkyard dogs’, Teddy, changed the course of her life. Not only did she save Teddy, but that was just the beginning. She eventually found Sentient Creatures, a nonprofit, and has saved thousands of dogs and pets since that interview.

So, I brought these two ideas together for the basis for my forthcoming book with the working title of Junkyard Dogs. Also in the running is Junkyard Dogs & Mouser Cats. Which do you prefer?

I’ll continue to ask this question not only on all my future Readups (we’re committed to continuing them monthly through at least the spring of 2021) but everywhere else including here. After all, I plan to write three more installments of the Zak Bates Eco-adventure series in 2021 so I could really use your suggestions?
